Your BMW Warning Lights: What Do They Mean?

BMW vehicles have a reputation for quality and longevity on the roads of Bonita Springs and Estero. However, even the most finely crafted vehicles will require service and maintenance from time to time. How do you know what your vehicle needs to perform at its best? BMW warning lights, like the BMW check engine light, alert you to potential issues with your vehicle that may need to be addressed by a professional. While some BMW dashboard lights indicate a need for service, others simply let you know when a specific feature is engaged. We cover some of the most common BMW warning lights below.

BMW Dashboard Lights

With an assortment of advanced systems, there are a variety of BMW dashboard lights that could appear at any time as you drive around North Naples. Here are some of the most frequently utilized BMW warning lights.

  • Empty or Low Fuel: When this symbol pops up, you have approximately 30 miles before your vehicle runs out of fuel. Keep in mind that driving too long with this light on could damage your fuel system.
  • Tire Pressure Monitor: This light lets you know that one or more of your tires is underinflated. A yellow light means the tire pressure is down by about 10%, while a red light means the tire has deflated rapidly.
  • Oil Can: If your vehicle is due for an oil change, you will see this light on your dashboard.
  • Light Bulb: If this symbol isilluminated, there is at least one external light that has burned out or is not functioning properly. If the light does not go out after the bulb has been replaced, we encourage you to set up a service appointment
  • Thermometer: This light signals that the engine is getting too hot. An overheating engine can be both dangerous and damaging to your vehicle. Pull over when it is safe to do so to let the engine cool off. Your vehicle should evaluated at a BMW service center as soon as possible.
  • BMW Check Engine Light: If the BMW check engine light flashes or stays on, you will want to have your vehicle serviced immediately.
  • Dynamic Stability Control: This is one of the BMW warning lights you do not have to worry about. It is simply letting you know that this feature is being utilized.
  • Service Vehicle: If this light is yellow, it is almost time for BMW service. If your BMW becomes overdue for service, the light will turn red.
