2008 BMW M3
2008 BMW M3

Overview
The 2008 BMW M3 marks its fourth generation existence as it sets the performance benchmark for its class. After a one-year absence, the M3 returns with a completely new look inside and out and, for the first time ever in a production car, a 414-hp V-8 engine. The new M3 can be completely customized according to the driver’s exclusive taste using the suite of standard and optional features BMW offers.
The 2008 BMW M3 is a distinctive high-performance sports car with unprecedented design and technology. It is a unique combination of engine power and an intelligent lightweight technology that keeps power-to-weight ratio at 3.8 kg/hp, which is perfect for speed and acceleration.
Powertrain and Performance
The 2008 BMW M3 comes with an eight-cylinder power unit, an all-new 4.0-liter V-8 that generates a maximum output of 309 kW/420 hp and a peak torque of 400 Nm/295 lb-ft. at 3,900 rpm. It has a maximum engine speed of 8,400 rpm with optimum power and torque throughout the entire engine speed range. The M3 has a manual six-speed gearbox with integrated, temperature-related oil cooling, mass inertia-optimised double-plate clutch.
Body and Styling
The M3, though based on the new 3 Series Coupe platform, features only the doors, trunklid, and fuel-filler cap designs as common to the 3 Series. Aggressive styling cues such as a pronounced powerdome on the hood, with side intakes, side ventilation gills, and aerodynamic bodywork distinguish the M3 as a high-performance vehicle while helping to feed air to its high performance engine. Its bigger wheels and wider track fill the exceptionally flared fenders and add to its curb presence. Another exclusive performance enhancement is its Carbon Fiber roof panel, which improves agility by reducing weight and lowering the center of gravity. The roof is finished in a clear paint so that the distinctive weave pattern shows through.
Safety Aspects
The standard safety features of the M3 include dual front-impact airbags (with dual-threshold deployment) and front-seat side-impact airbags, and pretensioning seatbelts that protect the driver and front passenger. All outboard passengers are further protected by a side-impact curtain airbag that runs the entire length of the cabin. BMW’s Advanced Crash Safety Management system unlocks doors, switches on hazard flashers and interior lights, and disconnects the fuel pump, alternator, and starter as a preventive measure in the event of a severe accident.
